Charleston Auto Insurance
In the state of South Carolina, you are required to own car liability insurance, which covers the damages to others after an accident that you cause. Though, given the price tag of cars and medical bills, the minimum requirements may not be enough to cover all of the damages. Bear in mind, liability coverage will not cover your own wounds or property damage; it only assists your responsibility to others on the road. Presently, the minimum limits for SC are "25/50/25".
- The first number is the bodily injury liability maximum coverage for one individual who's injured in an auto accident.
- The second number is the maximum amount of bodily injury liability coverage per accident.
- The third number represents the maximum amount of property damage liability, and it's per vehicle.

A form SR22 insurance certificate is required three years from the ending date of the suspension or, in some cases, from the beginning date or the compliance of the suspension. SR22 is also required during the six months when an individual is issued a provisional driver's license. SR22 must be obtained for the class license the driver seeks such as a motorcycle license or passenger vehicle license and the SR22 Certificate must be on file with DMV before the license can be reinstated or a provisional license is issued. SR22 is required even if you do not own a vehicle. In these cases, you can file a Non-Owners SR22. (Source)
Charleston Homeowners Insurance
While homeowners insurance is not required by law, most mortgage lenders ask that you buy it before consenting to your loan. Home coverage is intended to cover the costs of repair or replacement if your house or assets are lost, damaged or destroyed resulting from a covered incident. Covered incidents typically include fire, windstorms, severe weather, theft and vandalism. Flood and earthquake insurance have to be purchased separately.
